Rochester, NY – August 8, 2007 - Bianchi Industrial Services announced today that it
expects to complete surgical demolition work on the eight-story reinforced concrete
Mortimer Street Parking Garage in downtown Rochester by August 11, 2007. Bianchi’s
30-man crew began work on the demolition project for the City of Rochester in February.
“This was a challenging job due to the fact that the Mortimer Street Garage is located
between the historic Edwards Building and another active parking garage,” said managing
partner David Bianchi. “We had to be very careful in separating the garage from the other
buildings, with some of the work being done by hand.”
The demolition and clearance of the garage also required the use of special excavation
and concrete pulverizing equipment weighing more than 80 tons to reach up to the top
floor of the garage. Before the demolition work began, Bianchi handled environmental
remediation at the site, including asbestos removal and hazardous waste abatement. As
a full-service demolition, remediation, recycling and asset recovery contractor, Bianchi will
recycle approximately 99% of the nearly 200 tons of metal and 25,000 tons of concrete
and brick from the Mortimer Street Garage.
Once the actual demolition work is finished, Bianchi will grade the site for future parking
and install a security fence.
Originally established in 1950 as a local demolition company, Bianchi Industrial Services
remains a family-owned business with national reach, providing a full range of
environmental abatement and whole-building recycling services to clients in nearly 20
states. The company owns a large fleet of specialty demolition equipment, including an
ultra-high reach hydraulic excavator, which is one of only a few in the country. Bianchi
has worked nationwide on large projects for chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers,
power and cogeneration facilities, paper plants, aerospace facilities, warehouses,
schools, retail locations, sporting arenas and hospitals. Bianchi maintains one of the best
safety records in the industry. Bianchi Industrial Services was the first to use implosion
as a method of demolition in Syracuse on projects including the Strand Parking Garage,
W.T. Grant and Daniels’ buildings (site of Galleries of Syracuse) and Midtown Plaza. |
