August 1, 2006,
Evansville, IN,– With the
temperature topping 90 degrees
more days than not, Site Manager
Tom Archer of Bianchi Industrial
Services does all he can to keep
his crews hydrated and the
equipment cool. They’re in the
fourth week of demolition at the
Evansville State Hospital
sometimes known as Woodmere.
Currently, Building Two is
coming down with the help of the
Bianchi’s high reach machine,
one of the few in the world
capable of precision demolition
at 82 feet in the air. Building
Two is one of the tallest on the
hospital grounds and requires
special skill and care to bring
it down safely. The Bianchi’s
were one of the first companies
to own and use this highly
specialized piece of equipment
that has been changing the face
of demolition in the new
millennium. The high reach
machine will stick around for
work on one more building before
being sent back to Syracuse, NY.
The
demolition for the entire site –
6 buildings in all – was slated
for completion in mid September,
but the Bianchi team is running
ahead of schedule and plans on
wrapping up in mid August.
Bianchi Industrial Services,
based in Syracuse, NY, has the
unique record of never going
past a scheduled completion date
in over 50 years, and has
received many accolades for
"ahead of schedule" completions
on projects nationwide.
The
historic structure opened as the
Southern Indiana Hospital for
the Insane in 1890. As a
custodial general treatment
facility, Woodmere provided a
place of peace and solitude for
many mentally-ill patients, at
one time housing 1,500 people.
But many of the buildings have
fallen into disrepair and are no
longer safe for even occasional
use. One of the vacant buildings
was used as the "Phantom
Theater" haunted house for
Halloween. Now, it is time to
make space for the future.
Originally established in 1950
as a local demolition company,
Bianchi Industrial Services
remains a family-owned business
with national reach, providing a
full range of environmental
abatement and whole-building
recycling services to clients in
nearly 20 states. Bianchi has
worked nationwide on large
projects for chemical and
pharmaceutical manufacturers,
power and cogeneration
facilities, paper plants,
aerospace facilities,
warehouses, schools, retail
locations, sporting arenas and
hospitals. Bianchi maintains one
of the best safety records in
the industry. |
